YGB's Point Standings - Pitching

These are numbers I pulled up for the standings ending 5/3 which gives me 21.0 points out of a possible 65 (13 x 5 categories) points. This is a snapshot of where I fall within each category.

ERA : 4.36 11th  3 Pts

  • (3.56-.4.20) is range above me in ERA

Strikeouts : 155 12th   2 Pts

  • (172-233) is range above me in Ks

Saves : 2 11th   3 Pts

  • (3 -27) is range above me in Saves

Wins : 15 6th (Tied)   7 Pts

  • (16 -19) is range above me in W

WHIP : 1.41 8th   6 Pts

  • (1.28 -1.40) is range above me in WHIP

Nomar Update

This from Nomar

This injury seems similar to a calf injury I had last year from which it took about two weeks to get back. Every time it happens it can be different, though, so you never know. I don't know how long it will take this time. Last year, once I came back, it didn't really bother me. I was all right. Time will tell how the injury reacts this time.

Week 4 in the books

I earned 38.0 points with the bat, and 29.5 points in pitching which was good for 8th on the week. In Over My Head (another team owner) finally beat me in the weekly standings.

YGB Trade - Sunday Morning QB

I am getting hammered in the poll on the site about my blockbuster trade where I unloaded Brett Meyers, Michael Bourn, and Mark Reynolds.

Bourn yesterday was 0-4 with no SBs. Also, he is no longer the leadoff.

Mark Reynolds was 0-4 with 3 Ks

Meyers had 5Ks and 1 BB in his outing with a 7.20 ERA

Also, here is some good word, or in Brett Meyers case a bit of reality about his fastball:

The fastball that made Brett Myers a first-round draft pick in 1999 is nowhere to be found. The pitch that hit 95 m.p.h. suddenly cannot break 88 m.p.h. Said Myers: "It's not like I'm hurting. It's not like it's aching. It's not like I can't throw or anything like that. I've had times where it is barking and still go out there and throw 92, 93 [m.p.h.]. But right now it just isn't coming out. It's like doo-doo going up there." Philadelphia Inquirer

As in my case, Holliday was not much better yesterday going 0-5, and Hoffman did not pitch. I gave up on Matt Belisle, adding Jack Cassel. I reserved, Geary and activated Ryan Franklin. How fitting, day after I trade for a closer, I finally get one from Kyle McClellen.

YGB Makes a Blockbuster Trade

I know its only April, but as we started out today I viewed my team as a middle of pack team in the best case scenario. I have 45.0 points coming from my offense, with 20.5 coming from pitching. My best category is stolen bases with 24 which leads by 3 stolen bases. Along with two other teams, I have no points on saves, nor do I have a closer.

Here is the deal I made with In Over My Head:

In Over My Head trade

  • Emilio Bonifacio
  • Nomar Garciaparra
  • Trevor Hoffman
  • Matt Holliday

to Ya Gotta Believe! for

  • Brian Barton
  • Michael Bourn
  • Brett Myers
  • Mark Reynolds.

I'll break the rationale of the deal into its parts:

  • In making a deal, I realized I could compromise SBs for Saves. In the saves category, Mike Bourn provides SBs, and not much of anything else. That is who I targeted as someone I could trade for saves. I am not so worried about the stolen base category with Hanley Ramirez and Gregor Blanco as players who could provide in that category. Here, I swapped Bourn for Trevor Hoffman.
  • After bolstering my starting pitching by acquiring Shawn Hill and Jason Marquis in earlier deals, Brett Myers was expendable. Unfortunately,  He was not enough to get the run producer I wanted in Matt Holliday. So,  I compromised adding Mark Reynold along with Myers. I got Holliday along with Nomar in this part of the deal.
  • To make up for the stolen bases in subsequent years with the loss of Bourn, Emilio Bonifacio was obtained for the price of  Brian Barton.
This deal hurts me in that I wont have Bourn and Reynolds after this year. However, it makes me more competitive for this season with a top tier run producer in Holliday, and the opportunity to collect points in saves. At the cost of those two keepers, I have at least something to show for next year in Bonifacio who could be the D-Backs second baseman next year with Orlando Hudson being to expensive as a free agent.

Lillibridge To The Show

Brent Lillibridge gets the call, after Martin Prado shows he is not really as shortstop. Who know how long the stay is, but its a good feat for Brent finally get his big league chance. The Pirates trade for Adam LaRoche sure looks like a bust for the Pirates now as he is hitting worse than old man Delgado.

I have Lillibridge on YGB's roster at $2. I'll try to squeze him into my lineup somehow.

Another Trade For Pitching

My first trade netted me starter Jason Marquis at the expense of Luis Castillo, while also swapping Jason Kendall for Paul LoDuca.

I traded for Shawn Hill Last week prior to his first start. I gave the other team Heath Bell and Joe Koshansky for Shawn Hill. This gave me an extra roster spot.

I had used that roster spot as a roster claim for Rob Mackowiak , while also picking up Alex Romero for $1 dropping Chan Ho Park.

At the mid week free agency bidding, I got Ryan Speier for $3, dropping Rob Mackowiak. Also, I picked up catcher Jason LaRue (with LoDuca on DL), and cut Alex Romero who is no playing in minors.

YGB's Top 10 For 2008 thru Week 3

 Todd Helton

  1. Hanley Ramirez
  2. Brandon Webb
  3. Mark Reynolds
  4. Mike Bourn
  5. Todd Helton
  6. Brett Myers
  7. Carlos Lee
  8. Jeff Kent
  9. Shawn Hill
  10. Jason Marquis

YGB's 3 weeks in books Point Standings - Hitting

These are numbers I pulled up for the standings ending 4/19 which gives me 43.5 points out of a possible 65 (13 x 5 categories) points. This is a snapshot of where I fall within each category.

Batting Average : .277 3rd  10 Pts

  • (.282-.293) is range above me in BA

Home Runs : 21 4th (tied)  8.5 Pts

  • (22-29) is range above me in HR

Runs : 87 8th   6 Pts

  • (88 -114) is range above me in R

RBI : 76 8th   6 Pts

  • (81 -108) is range above me in RBI

SB : 19 1st   13 Pts

  • (81 -108) is range above me in RBI
This shows that I am weak on scoring runs, and driving in runs. I'd have to say the biggest disappointment so far on the season is Carlos Lee. A slugger by trade, he is only slugging at rate of .479 which is way down. The past three years he has averaged .533 SLG mark. I expected a .300 BA out of him, and he is in the .260s.

Middle of The Pack

The duo of Webb and Meyers did it again going the distance and picking up wins. My other two starters of Jason Marquis and Edgar Gonzalez go on Saturday.

Mark Reynolds hot start has taken a nose dive with 1 XBH in his last 16 ABs.Though, this is encouraging:

According to the Web site Hit Tracker, which uses a multitude of factors to determine home run distances, his 17 home runs last season traveled an average of 407.9 feet, second only to Fielder's, which averaged 408 feet. Teammates still talk about the home run he hit in Atlanta last year, some calling it the farthest they have seen a ball travel.

Looking at some of my holdover reserves from last year who are in the minors:

Joe Koshanksy - no place to play with Helton

Jake Fox - Still has a nice bat

Brett Carroll - AAAA player?

Matt Belisile could be recalled any minute now.

I swapped Henry Blanco for Brad Ausmus for my backup catcher for $1

Week Two In the Books

The first week of the year, my offense collected 48.5 points, and the pitching was horrid with a 16.0. In week 2, the pitching improved with a 28.0 points, and the offense was about the same with 45.0 points. So, as of last night in the overall standings after the light schedule of games, I am showing 68.0 points for seventh place.

I expected to be a middle of the pack team going in. So, I am where I expected to be.

With the pick up of Chan Ho Park at $1, I am at $12 spent on the season.  I did pick up a backup catcher in Brad Ausmus, letting Seth McClung go.
